Embrace
Sketch colored in Photoshop, 2003

Done in high school, before I knew how to draw guy's faces.
The overall tone is somewhat cold and lonely, an eggshell of warmth and security
generated by the embrace. It may even be imaginary.
This was a black and white sketch colored in photoshop with multiple layers and
blending modes.
I hadn't planned for it to turn out green, but in retrospect, this color is the only one
that works for me in most of my romantic pieces.
I tend to think of romance as an abstract idea, rather than immediate carnalities of
reds and yellows. This subdued green is warm, yet cool at the same time, and feels lonely and elusive.
